“Krasner & Pollock / Uncaged,” the latest work by New York Theatre Ballet Artistic Director Antonia Franceschi, brings the turbulent relationship between Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock to the stage in a visceral dance-theatre portrait. Set against their marriage, Pollock’s addiction and infidelity, and the devastating 1956 car crash that claimed his life, the work follows Krasner through the aftermath — and into one of the most powerful periods of her career.

After receiving the news of Pollock’s death while in Paris, Krasner returned to Long Island and moved into his barn studio. Sleepless and grieving, she began painting through the night, producing the raw, intensely gestural Umber paintings, including “Uncaged.” The performance ends at the moment that painting begins, with Krasner disappearing into the act of creation.
Directed by Irish theatre artist Sara Joyce and choreographed by Franceschi, “Krasner & Pollock / Uncaged” offers a fresh way into the story of two giants of American art — examining love, ambition, addiction, loss, and the complicated legacy of a woman whose work was too often overshadowed by her husband’s.
The performance will be held in the sculpture garden at LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton on Sunday, September 12, at 5 PM. Tickets are available here.
