The Village Voice Appoints Steven McKenna To Chief Revenue Officer

The Village Voice has appointed former Dan’s Papers CEO, President and Publisher  Steven McKenna to the position of Chief Revenue Officer.

Founded in 1955 by Dan Wolf, Ed Fancher, John Wilcock, and Norman Mailer, the Voice began as a platform for the creative community of New York City. It ceased publication in 2017, while its online archives remained accessible. After an ownership change to Street Media, the Voice reappeared in print in April 2021.

McKenna, a long-time media veteran aims to accelerate The Village Voice’s position as a go-to marketing-solutions partner for New York City businesses and to attract the world’s largest brands through a combination of print, websites, live events, influencer marketing, and a suite of innovative digital and social marketing solutions.

Prior to Dan’s Papers, McKenna held roles at The Long Island Press and Newsday, where he spent more than 18 years. His experience aims to position The Village Voice to be more accessible to brands and businesses and help the company grow through modern diversification.

“We are excited to have Steve join the team,” said Brian Calle, CEO and Publisher of Street Media and The Village Voice. “He will play an important role in reviving and rebuilding The Village Voice so it continues its legacy as the heart of New York journalism and the voice of the community.”

“Steve has incredible insight into what keeps marketers up at night and is known for his consultative creative approach to addressing all of those challenges,” said Eric Feil, former CEO, President and Editorial Director at Dan’s Papers. “The energy and strategic expertise that he will bring to the Voice will take it to new levels, and New York City should be excited about the future with Steve as part of The Village Voice team.”

Over its 63 years of publication, The Village Voice www.VillageVoice.com received countless accolades including three Pulitzer Prizes, the National Press Foundation Award and the George Polk Award. Street Media is the owner of LA Weekly, The Village Voice, Irvine Weekly, and the SF Marina Times.
