Sound View in Greenport hosts its Culture Collective Fireside Series throughout October. The Fireside series includes intimate conversations with powerful voices within the cultural landscape of New York and beyond.
On Sunday, October 15, from 6:30 to 8 PM, it’s Ruby Lerner, the founding Executive Director of Creative Capital, an innovative arts foundation that adapts venture capital concepts to support individual artists. Under her leadership, Creative Capital designed a comprehensive support system for artists that combined money with advisory support. It committed more than $40 million in financial and advisory support to 511 projects representing 642 artists.
On October 22, the series continues with Eric Fischl and April Gornik. Fischl is an internationally acclaimed American painter and sculptor. His artwork is represented in many museums throughout the world and has been featured in over one thousand publications. His achievements throughout his career have made him one of the most influential figurative painters of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Gornik shows in New York City, where she had been a resident since 1978, and now lives in North Haven. She has work in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the National Museum of American Art.
On October 29, Joshua Baer will speak as part of the series. For nearly three decades, The Baer Faxt has been a leading news source for the art world. Baer is an art advisor to world-class collectors, having completed over $500m worth of transactions.
