On Friday, July 7, Jean and Martin Shafiroff entertained nearly 150 guests at their home in Southampton to celebrate the launch of the fundraising season of the Southampton Hospital Foundation.

Proceeds from the season go to support the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and its mission to provide access to first-class, compassionate healthcare to all who live or visit the East End. SBSH is the only hospital on the South Fork and is home to the first Level III Trauma Center in Suffolk as part of the Jenny & John Paulson Emergency Department, as recognized by the American College of Surgeons. It also has the only catheterization laboratory on the South Fork to treat heart attacks in the Audrey and Martin Gruss Heart & Stroke Center.

Philanthropists, medical leaders, and friends joined Jean, who is a trustee for SBSH, and Martin for canapés and cocktails. Among the many attendees were fashion icon Fern Mallis, author and television producer Candace Bushnell, former fashion executive and now owner of the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach Sarah Wetenhall with her daughter Amelia, Media Takeout CEO Fred Mwangaguhunga and his wife Notoya, and “Real Housewives of New York City” star Ramona Singer. Hospital trustees included Ladd Willis with his wife Cindy, John Wambold with his wife Melanie, Laura Lofaro Freeman with her husband Jim, Alan Glatt with his wife Barbara and Elena Ford and Mitch Seldin. Artist and board member J. Oscar Molina chatted with fellow artist Patti Grabel.

Dr. Fredric Weinbaum, who has been the Chief Medical Officer for sixteen years and is now Interim Chief Administrative Officer while the search for a replacement for Bob Chaloner, the former CAO continues, mingled with other clinical leaders including Dr. J.P. Reilly Chief of Cardiology for SBSH and President of the Meeting House Lane group, Seth Korbin, Vice Chair of Orthopedics, Dr. Van Arsdale, Director of Medical Education and his wife Dr. Allison Van Arsdale, Medical Director for Family Medicine.

Commenting, Ken Wright, Chair of the Southampton Hospital Foundation, said, “Jean and Martin Shafiroff have been wonderful supporters of the Hospital for many years and we are grateful to them for such a great start to our fundraising season.

“We have so many ways for people to support the Hospital through the Foundation from attending events, sponsoring programming and equipment, to volunteering and lending their talents and time. We appreciate every single contribution no matter its size or nature.

“We are very fortunate that our donors understand the vital importance of healthcare access, quality and compassion and it’s thanks to them that we have been able to build so many new facilities and services to improve the experience our patients receive. With philanthropists like these, I have every confidence that we will achieve our ambitious plans for healthcare in this community over the next five years.”
