The Bridgehampton Museum Partners With Ma’s House For A Series Of Artist And Artisan-Led Workshops

The Bridgehampton Museum has announced a partnership with Ma’s House BIPOC Studio and its founder, photographer and artist Jeremy Dennis for a series of artist and artisan-led workshops beginning in 2023.

“UPON THIS GROUND – Art | Community | Discussion” is envisioned as a collaborative art experience that will create an inclusive, collaborative environment encouraging a greater understanding of the presentation and interpretation of individual and collective history.

Artists-in-residence from Ma’s House BIPOC Studio, Shinnecock artists, and East End community members will lead the lively discussions, workshops, and demonstrations.

Artistic themes explore self-identification, how we tell our stories, the artist’s process, and one’s connection to place. Programs will be held at The Bridgehampton Museum throughout 2023 and include workshops, demonstrations, and lectures, followed by a small informal reception.

“Our goal is to create, foster, and grow an ongoing cross-cultural exchange by expanding the visibility and accessibility of these often-marginalized artists and our museum through interesting and engaging programs,” said Nina Dec, the executive director of the Bridgehampton Museum.

“I am excited to partner with Bridgehampton Museum on what is traditionally Shinnecock and Montauket land to give voice to underrepresented artists and artists of color,” Dennis said. Ma’s House is a communal art space created and led by Dennis on the Shinnecock Territory where Black, Indigenous, and People of Color create and exhibit artwork. This partnership is an expansion of their weekly workshops meant to support BIPOC artists and expose the Bridgehampton community to Ma’s House Resident Artists.

Jeremy Dennis is a contemporary fine art photographer and a tribal member of the Shinnecock Indian Nation in Southampton. His work explores indigenous identity, culture, and assimilation.
