Larsen Salon Series: The American Dream
LongHouse Reserve will host a presentation by Michael Jones, Partner at Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA), on the architecture and history of Central Park South. The talk will explore the figures who helped define the neighborhood, from bold developers like Harry Black and Steve Ross to influential designers such as Emery Roth and Dorothy Draper. It will also consider the architectural character of iconic buildings like the Hampshire House, the Hotel St. Moritz, and the Sherry-Netherland Hotel, and how these landmarks helped shape the mixed-use, high-rise residences that now define the area.
Michael Jones will reflect on how this history has informed RAMSA’s own work, focusing on three of the firm’s major contributions to the Central Park South skyline: 15 Central Park West, 220 Central Park South, and 520 Park Avenue. As a leading architect with a portfolio spanning New York, Lima, and Hong Kong, Jones brings deep knowledge of both classical and contemporary residential design. He is also active in advocacy and education, serving on the boards of LongHouse Reserve and The Ali Forney Center, and leading inclusivity efforts within RAMSA through its LGBTQ+ committee.
