The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill continues its year-long celebration with a Harvest Welcome Day on Sunday, October 8, from 11 AM to 5 PM – an opportunity for members of the community to experience everything the museum has to offer. All visitors are invited to the Parrish free of charge, and in addition to visiting the museum’s galleries, join activities and workshops, exhibition tours, and join a participatory art project, the Inside Out Photo Project.
The Inside Out Photo Project was founded by French artist, JR, in 2011, and has created participatory art projects, called Group Actions, using portraits taken in their photobooth truck in 152 countries and territories and involved over 500,000 people worldwide. Visitors and participants at the Parrish will have a 4 ft. by 3 ft. portrait taken that will be part of a public art project displayed on the museum’s northern façade. The project will also include an audio archive of our community members’ reflections on the community in which they live.
From 1 to 4:30 PM, the Parrish’s Group Action, entitled “Portrait of Our Community,” invites visitors to have their portrait taken in the photo truck to be installed on the north façade, as well as recording their reflections on the following questions: What would you like people in our community to know about you? and What do you love about our community? Portraits and audio reflections will also appear on the Inside Out Project’s website.
During the day-long event, Harvest Welcome Day includes guided exhibition tours at 11 AM, 12 PM, and 2:30 PM; screenings of “Wrinkles of the City, Havana Cuba,” a short film by artists JR and José Parlá is held at 11:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3 PM; a children’s art workshops is held from 1 to 4 PM, and a reading of “Queen Bee Finds a Home” by author Bernadette Ruggiero will take place. Workshops and projects can be enjoyed while supplies last.
