Offshore Art and Film Festival in Montauk

This summer, the Offshore Art and Film Festival will take place from July 13 to July 17 at select locations in Montauk. This “art by day” and “film by night” event showcases art installations and screenings of independent films, featuring notable speakers, industry mixers, and a series of filmmaker Q&As.

The festival aims to celebrate filmmakers whose characters remind us of our own inherent strength and how “we” as a community can work towards a better global community. Proceeds will go to charities and organizations such as Oceania, 1% For The Planet, the Montauk Playhouse, the Montauk Library, and the Montauk Skatepark Coalition. The festival events, opening night, and awards ceremony will be presented in partnership with Woman Make Movies and venues will include The Ranch, Sole East, and the Montauk Beach House. Event themes include NFTs, climate change, and performance art.

The festival kicks off on July 13 with its opening night celebration at the Montauk Beach House. The event features a screening of “Waterproof,” a local Bonac film directed by Ross Kauffman documenting East Hampton’s dynasty of lifeguards, as well as a cast panel and Q&A discussion. Before the screening, there will also be an NFT panel presented by Intu.

On July 14, The Ranch will host a live NFT launch followed by a screening of the film “The Art of Making It” directed by Kelcey Edwards and a cast panel and Q&A. Frank Stella’s sculptures will be on display on property. Early access tickets are offered for an exclusive gallery visit and wine tasting on the lawn.

On July 15, Sole East will host an afternoon art walk, featuring artwork on display and for sale that highlights Long Island’s beauty, including work from Montauk artist Lindsay Bardwil. At 5 PM, there will be an artist reception and discussion and at 7 PM, there will be a live panel discussion sponsored by Women Make Movies and featuring local filmmaker Emily Anderson. At sundown, there will be a screening of “Summer Scares,” a collection of films including comedic shorts and high summer horrors. The night will conclude with a performance by Jo Jerusalem.

On July 16, Sole East will host a screening of short films “Ghost Light” and “Double Yellow” by directors Aaron Monaghan and Ruairí Heading and feature film “Sunburn.” Directed by Nelson Hume and starring Cillian Murphy, “Sunburn” was shot in Montauk during the summer of 1998 and captures the Irish J-1 culture of working, partying, and living life during a crazy Montauk summer.

The festival will conclude on July 17 with a brunch party and award ceremony for all winners of the Offshore Art and Film Festival filmmaker categories. The location of this event has yet to be announced.
