On Wednesday, December 13, the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club hosted a luncheon at their main lodge where the board of directors presented a $22,000 check to each of three local breast-cancer organizations: Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition, Lucia’s Angels, and North Fork Breast Health Coalition. The donation is from the club’s ninth annual fundraiser for the research and treatment of breast cancer and is nearly a 30 percent increase over last year’s gift, according to event co-chairs Joe Hocker and Ed Walden.
Almost 200 people attended the sporting clays event called “Take A Shot At Cancer,” which was held on September 10 in advance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The day included a BBQ chicken lunch and raffles with sporting prizes donated by the club and its members.
During the luncheon and check presentation, PRSC President Mike McEnroy remarked: “Although we work with numerous charities, this is our signature event and has become part of the fabric of our club. We are already planning next year. These three local breast cancer organizations are doing important work here on Long Island, and our club is honored to assist by raising much needed funds.”
“We are so grateful for such a generous and loyal benefactor as PRSC. With this kind of support, we are able to provide additional services and funding to those in need. This donation will truly make a difference in people’s lives,” said Melanie McEvoy Zuhoski, president of the North Fork Breast Health Coalition.
