Roosevelt Family Estate Sells For $3,575,000 In Orient

Steeped in history in the charming hamlet of Orient Village on the North Fork, President Teddy Roosevelts’ Grandson’s sought-after estate, set on 5.7 pastoral acres, sells for $3,575,000. The sale of the Roosevelt family home sets a new threshold and confirms the price growth of Orient’s non-waterfront homes within the Village.

Teddy Roosevelt’s grandson, noted American composer and pianist, Joseph Willard Roosevelt, and his wife Carol Adele Russell Roosevelt purchased this very special parcel. Together they commissioned prominent local architect Elizabeth Thompson, who still resides in Orient Village and has designed several beautiful homes in the area, to design and build their North Fork home.

J. Willard was the son of Kermit Roosevelt and Belle Wyatt Willard. His paternal grandparents were U.S. President Theodore “T.R.” Roosevelt, Jr. and First Lady Edith Kermit Carow. After J. Willard and Carol’s deaths, their son, Dirck Roosevelt settled the home and estate.

The sale of the Roosevelt family home sets a new threshold and confirms the price growth of Orient’s non-waterfront homes within the Village.

Lori Feilen at Town & Country Real Estate who listed and sold the property remarked, “I was honored to be chosen by the Roosevelt family to represent their family estate. I immediately went to work and found an absolutely ideal buyer who appreciates the home’s unique energy and the sense of place their family lovingly created. They intend to carry on preserving the shared identities of this special family’s estate’s unique past. The Roosevelt Family is delighted with the purchasers who appreciate so many things about their parents’ home, its extensive grounds, its character, and its distinguished provenance. It’s such a remarkably beautiful place.”

Entering the estate down a sycamore-treed private lane lends a foreshadowing of what’s to come. The impressive 3-4 bedroom, 3 bath, 2,900 sq. ft. postmodern home exudes Old World charm and is shrouded in privacy and a sense of peacefulness. The home featured two fireplaces, a screened-in porch, a music room, and a den. Set on a spacious 5.7-acre partially conserved parcel with endless views and possibilities. The south-facing property overlooks acres of open meadows that create a private and vast natural landscape that includes a pond, fruit trees, perennials, herb and vegetable gardens, and several outbuildings.
