‘Set It Off’ Opening Reception At Parrish Art

The Parrish Art Museum opened the new exhibition “Set It Off” with a VIP reception at the museum on Friday, May 20. Attendees included exhibition curators Racquel Chevremont and Mickalene Thomas — collectively known as Deux Femmes Noires — and exhibition artists Leilah Babirye, February James, Karyn Olivier, and Kennedy Yanko.

Attendees at the opening included collectors, gallerists, curators, artists, and members of the Parrish Board of Trustees: Co-Chairs Alexandra Stanton and Frederic M. Seegal; Co-President Timothy G. Davis; Vice President Sandy Perlbinder; Treasurer George Wells; Secretary Martha B. McLanahan; Louis K. Meisel and Preston T. Philips.

“Set It Off” brings together work by an international roster of female artists who engage the monumental, the site specific, and/or the immersive in their practice, often combining multiple elements of readymade, painting, photography, language, sculpture, and installation. Featuring more than 50 works — many of which are new or never-before-seen — the exhibition is presented outdoors in the Meadow and in the Parrish galleries. The show is on view through July 24.
