Beloved for her dry humor and one-of-a-kind comedic style, acclaimed stand-up comic Tig Notaro is coming to the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on August 17. Named one of Rolling Stone’s “50 Best Stand-Up Comics of All Time,” Notaro blends honesty, vulnerability, and niche delivery, making her a standout comic in the industry.
“We are so lucky to have someone as talented as Tig Notaro play our theatre. Her humor is as relatable as it is hilarious,” said WHBPAC Marketing Director Heather Draskin.
Over the past few years, Notaro has built a remarkable career as a comedian, actor, writer, director, producer, and podcast host. Her latest stand-up special, “Tig Notaro: Hello Again,” premiered on Prime Video in March 2024 and earned multiple EMMY nominations for its smart and understated brilliance. She also made history with her HBO special Drawn, the first-ever fully animated stand-up special. Notaro is also the creative force behind the semi-autobiographical Amazon series “One Mississippi,” which she wrote, produced, and starred in, earning critical acclaim and nominations from the WGA, GLAAD, and Critics’ Choice Awards. In 2025, Tig produced the Sundance-winning documentary “Come See Me in the Good Light,” coming to Apple TV this fall, and co-directed the GLAAD-nominated feature “Am I OK?,” starring Dakota Johnson.
Beyond the stage, Notaro was raised in Mississippi and later Texas, where she earned the nickname “Tig” from her brother at a young age. After dropping out of high school and earning her GED, Notaro began her career in the music industry before eventually moving to Los Angeles and trying her hand at stand-up in the late 1990s. Her comedy often blends absurd observations with raw, autobiographical stories, setting her apart with a tone that is as intimate as it is understated.
She gained early exposure through Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend” and later appeared on shows like “The Sarah Silverman Program,” “Community,” and “Inside Amy Schumer.” However, Notaro’s true breakout came in 2012, when she delivered a now-legendary set at Largo in Los Angeles just days after being diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer. That set, in which she matter-of-factly disclosed her diagnosis, the recent death of her mother, and other personal tragedies, became an instant touchstone in modern comedy. Released as the album Live, the performance received widespread acclaim and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album.
Since then, Notaro has built an eclectic and respected career. She created and starred in “One Mississippi,” a semi-autobiographical series on Amazon Prime, and has released multiple acclaimed specials, including “Boyish Girl Interrupted” and “Drawn,” the latter being the first fully animated stand-up special. As an actress, she’s appeared in films like “Army of the Dead,” and in series such as “Star Trek: Discovery” and “The Morning Show.” She also co-hosts the podcast “Handsome” with comedians Fortune Feimster and Mae Martin.
Offstage, Notaro is a wife and mother. She married actress Stephanie Allynne in 2015, and the couple has twin sons born via surrogate. Her memoir, “I’m Just a Person,” became a New York Times bestseller, further solidifying her reputation as a unique and courageous voice in comedy. Frequently described as a “comedian’s comedian,” Tig continues to tour internationally and remains a favorite on late-night TV, NPR, and podcasts.
