Step Up To Turn Cancer Off Virtual Event

Brown Harris Stevens agents, staff and executives took part in the second annual BHS Hamptons Walk. The event was a prelude to the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation’s Step Up to Turn Cancer Off virtual event. The walk, which included a walking tour of historic Sag Harbor Village, was intended to raise awareness and register as many people as possible for the SWCRF’s upcoming virtual event, which raises funds to develop new treatments, preventions, and early detection methods.

Participants in the Hamptons Walk included BHS Executive Managing Directors for the Hamptons, Robert Nelson and Philip O’Connell, as well as members of the BHS team, Christa Duva, Sarah Cutter, Shannan North, Angela Pecora, Lauren Battista, Mary Ellen McGuire, JB DosSantos, Jeanne Hutson, David Tenenbaum, Peter Turino, Cathy Hansen, Shrikant Iyer, and Lynn Deeg.

The week-long Step Up To Turn Cancer Off virtual fundraising event starts on Monday, June 6. Step Up To Turn Cancer Off is a new event where participants keep track of their physical activities in order to reach their daily “step” goal. An easy-to-use online tool will convert nearly any activity such as walking, running, swimming, dancing, yoga, gardening,  into steps. Entrants can register individually or as a team and then share progress with peers and family to garner donations.

“An active, healthy lifestyle is one of the best ways to lower the risk of developing cancer,” said Dr. Samuel Waxman, SWCRF Founder and CEO. “This is why we are challenging supporters to Step Up for one week and raise funds for critical cancer research at the same time.”

Despite numerous advances in the fight against cancer, it continues to be a leading cause of death in the United States and around the world. More than 10 million people are expected to die from cancer this year, according to SWCRF, and cancer rates are increasing. Events such as the Step Up To Turn Cancer Off and the annual Hamptons Happening play a vital role in funding breakthrough scientific research.

The week-long challenge runs from Monday, June 6 through Sunday, June 12.

“Every step will bring us one step closer to a cure,” said Dr. Waxman. Visit waxmancancer.org.
