The Clamshell Foundation’s Fireworks over Three Mile Harbor in East Hampton are on! The display is set to be held on Saturday, July 17.
“The Fireworks Show is a three-decade long tradition, staged over Three Mile Harbor in East Hampton,” reads the Clamshell Foundation’s website. “The fireworks almost faded into history, but in 2009, The Clamshell Foundation revived the popular event and has taken it over every year since. The fireworks is an important tradition in East Hampton and was one of our founders, Rossetti Perchick, favorite nights of the year.”
“The annual fireworks display started in the early 1970s when George Plimpton, the late writer, actor and founder of The Paris Review, began hosting fireworks parties at his summer homes in Sagaponack and Amagansett. Because of Mr. Plimpton’s love for Paris, the fireworks have always been scheduled for the first Saturday after Bastille Day,” the site states.
Places to view the fireworks include Maidstone Park, Sammy’s Beach, Gann Road, or beaches off of Hands Creek Road and Springy Banks Road. You may also view from head of Three Mile Harbor or by boat in the harbor.
The event is funded by public contributions. All proceeds raised from the show will go to the children in the community and the goal is to raise $40,000.
Donations can be made by visiting www.clamshellfoundation.org/donate. Checks can be sent to The Clamshell Foundation, PO Box 2725, East Hampton, New York, NY 11937.
The rain date is July 18.
