The Neo-Political Cowgirls Presents Andromeda’s Sisters: ‘Gardening A Civil Society’

On Saturday, June 15, The Neo-Political Cowgirls presents Andromeda’s Sisters with an early evening of theater, thought-provoking conversation, and delectable bites at the Longhouse Reserve in East Hampton.

Abigail Disney, producer of the 2008 documentary “Pray the Devil Back to Hell,” Emmy Award-winning “The Armor of Light,” and “The American Dream and Other Fairy Tales,” will join Minerva Perez, Executive Director of OLA of Eastern Long Island, and Lucy Sexton, Executive Director of New Yorkers for Culture and Arts on the panel with New York Times best-selling author A.M. Homes moderating.

The discussion will focus on inspired actions for building kinder communities, igniting collaboration, and how the arts serve our ability to engage in more civil conversations in days of deep division. The event is an opportunity for people, especially women, to come together to discuss the urgent nature of community, conversation, and collaboration.

While this is the 8th year of Andromeda’s Sisters, it’s the first year at Longhouse, with whom The Neo-Political Cowgirls are now partnering on ongoing creative collaborations. The theme for this year’s event, “Gardening a Civil Society,” will draw inspiration from the stunning natural beauty of the grounds as well as the provocative nature of the power of art to ignite how we engage in hard conversations.

This year, Andromeda’s Sisters will honor Gail Pellett, the Honorary Chairwoman and 2024 Andromeda’s Sisters Award Recipient. Gail is an award-winning writer, director, and producer of documentaries, articles, and reports. She is also co-founder of Changehampton, a group of citizen activists promoting restorative landscaping.

Funds raised help support The Neo-Political Cowgirls, which provides a wide range of creative, community-building, and empowerment initiatives for the East End community, from the January Girls workshops to the Little Free Pantry to professionally staged, imaginative theater productions. Original, one-of-a-kind headdresses built by NPC founder Kate Mueth and worn by performers for the event will be available for purchase at the event.

VIP Gift bags will be stocked with goodies from partner organizations, including tailor-made hats from East Africa courtesy of the Paper Fig Foundation, which aligns with The Neo-Political Cowgirls’s commitment to empowerment through the arts.
