Southampton Arts Center welcomes acclaimed author and Pulitzer Prize finalist Dava Sobel for a captivating presentation of her latest book, “The Elements of Marie Curie: How the Glow of Radium Lit a Path for Women in Science.” This special event will take place on Monday, January 13, from 6 to 7 PM, offering in-person and online ticket options.
Dava Sobel will delve into the groundbreaking discoveries of Marie Sklodowska Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and a trailblazer for women in science. Her discoveries of polonium and radium reshaped physics and chemistry while paving the way for aspiring female scientists. Sobel’s presentation will highlight Curie’s achievements, her collaborations with figures like Albert Einstein, and her enduring impact on science and humanity.
Following the presentation, Sobel will autograph copies of her book, which will be available for purchase. In-person attendees will also have the opportunity to stargaze, weather permitting, with Hamptons Observatory founding Board member Sean Tvelia.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity to celebrate the life and legacy of Marie Curie through the lens of Dava Sobel’s incredible work,” said Christina Mossaides Strassfield, Executive Director of Southampton Arts Center. “We are thrilled to host Dava and to share her inspiring new book with our community.”
