During Women‘s History Month, AIA Peconic and the Southampton Arts Center will once more collaborate to honor the contributions of women in architecture. Their third annual celebration will take place on March 27, with a screening of “City Dreamers,” a documentary film about the pioneering work of four early female architects, followed by a discussion panel featuring local designers.

The event will commence with a networking reception at 5:30 PM and a screening at 6:30 PM. Following this, AIA Peconic architects will discuss the movie’s topic at 8 PM. Julie Hatfield, the President of Wright & Company Construction, a pioneer in high-end residential construction and a female influence in a once male-dominated occupation, will conduct the panel discussion.
“City Dreamers” chronicles the lives of Phyllis Lambert, Blanche Lemco van Ginkel, Cornelia Hahn Oberlander, and Denise Scott Brown, four women architects whose legacies have designed cities for over 70 years. Their experiences in architecture, planning, and landscape architecture have made them indelible players in the face of urban growth. Their contributions—often facilitated despite systemic resistance—have guided and influenced generations of professionals since the 1950s.
We are thrilled to once again partner with AIA Peconic to show our audience this award-winning film,” stated Christina Strassfield, Executive Director of the Southampton Arts Center.
Following the panel discussion, the audience will also have a second opportunity to network at 9 PM. The program is eligible for two AIA learning credits, providing professional development training for members of the architectural community.

Hatfield, who will moderate the discussion, has spent three decades leading complex residential projects at Wright & Company Construction. With a Master’s in Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, she has balanced high-end design integrity with project execution, earning her a respected place in the field. Active in the East End community, Hatfield serves on several boards, including The Retreat and the Construction Careers Charitable Fund.
