The Arts Center at Duck Creek in Springs and artist Louise Eastman present Airing of the Quilts, community event on the grounds at Duck Creek. This program will take place on Saturday, April 22, from 11 AM to 5 PM, with a rain date on Sunday, April 23.
Both The East Hampton Historical Farm Museum and The East Hampton Historical Society will be displaying quilts from their collections, some of which are over 100 years old. At noon neighbor JC Rico, will perform his Earth Day Rap, after which there will be a tour of the quilts, and each participant will have an opportunity to share the story of their quilt.
Airing of the Quilts is a traditional Rite of Spring. For centuries, quilts have been crafted with love to warm beds, and shield us from the chill of drafty doors and windows. After a long winter of snuggling up, the Spring gives a chance to get outside and air our quilts. Quilt-making is a living tradition throughout the world. As a communal activity, quilting provides a space to collaborate creatively, share stories, ideas, and history.
Duck Creek will also be displaying a Community Quilt made especially for this event by over 30 local artists including; Almond Zigmund, Amy Wickersham, Andrea Cote, Barbara Dayton, Bastienne Schmidt, Candace Hill Montgomery, Christine Sciulli, Christina Sun, Claire Watson, Dora Aretaki, Erica-Lynn Huberty, Eva Faye, Francine Fleischer, Jackie Hoving, Jennifer Tripp, Jill Musnicki, Kerry Sharkey-Miller, Laurie Lambrecht, Linda K Alpern, Lindsay Morris, Louise Eastman, LoVid, Margaret Garrett, Mary Ellen Bartley, Pipi Deer, Roisin Bateman, Sabina Streeter, Sabra Moon Elliot, Saskia Friedrich, Stephanie Joyce and Tracy Loggia.
Airing of the Quilts is an outdoor, community event. They welcome all shapes and sizes of quilts, as long as they can be displayed on a clothesline. Participants are encouraged to come between 9 and 11 AM to help hang the quilts. All quilts to be hung on clotheslines must be tagged with the exhibitor’s name, phone number, and email. Tags will be provided if you do not have your own.
