Christie’s Southampton Opens With ‘Out East’

This summer, Christie’s Americas is expanding its geographic presence to include the Hamptons and Aspen. Both locations will offer property for immediate sale, ranging from 20th and 21st Century Art to luxury goods such as jewels, watches, and handbags.

“Summer is the optimal time to meet our clients where they live, and bring with us the fine art and luxury objects for which Christie’s is so well known. Our teams have curated a dynamic series of opening exhibitions well-tailored to summer in Aspen and the Hamptons, and we look forward to seeing new and established clients in each of these idyllic settings,” said Bonnie Brennan, the President of Christie’s Americas.

Christie’s has launched its long-term residency in the Hamptons this June with an opening exhibition at its new outpost at 1 Pond Lane in Southampton. Located in a newly-refurbished 5,600 square foot glass-front building, Christie’s Southampton will serve as a vibrant hub of activity, with regular programming of events, exhibitions, receptions and brand collaborations for the local community.

Christie’s residency in the building, which will run through 2022, follows on the success of last summer’s pop-up exhibition in the Hamptons, which drew hundreds of clients to a masterworks exhibitions of auction highlights over the extended 4th of July holiday.

For its inaugural curated exhibition in Southampton, Christie’s specialists drew inspiration from the area’s best-known artists, whose work is synonymous with the region’s rich landscape and inviting proximity to the sea. In the show titled “Out East,” works by Willem de Kooning, Helen Frankenthaler, and Lee Krasner anchor the exhibition, complemented by Fairfield Porter, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol, among others. Together, the works on view in the show capture the magic of this special place, and reveal how the beguiling beauty of Long Island spurred a rich and varied body of work.

“The East End has long been an important destination for artists and collectors alike. Christie’s is honored to be part of such a thriving gallery community in the Hamptons and we look forward to an exciting summer of programming with our specialist team and friends in the region,” said Sara Friedlander, Deputy Chairman, Post-War and Contemporary Art.

All exhibitions at Christie’s Southampton will be open to the public by appointment. Future summer and fall exhibitions will be announced in the coming weeks. “Out East” runs through July 11.
