The Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE) will partner with Art Production Fund, Fort Gansevoort, and Rockefeller Center to host celebrated artist Sanford Biggers for an “Art Sundae” art-making workshop in the Museum’s Art Studio and Patio, on Wednesday, June 23, at 4 PM.
Children will be guided in the creation of a collage quilt square, inspired by the artist’s public exhibition now on view at Rockefeller Center in New York City. Following the workshop, children are invited to submit their collages for inclusion in an upcoming public art installation by Biggers at 10 Rockefeller Plaza.
“It’s an incredible opportunity especially for underserved children in our community to work alongside a renowned artist like Sanford Biggers,” said Steve Long, CMEE’s president. “Kids are very excited that some of their creations at the workshop may be featured in his upcoming installation at Rockefeller Center.”
Families unable to attend the sold out workshop in-person are invited to participate at home by tuning into Rockefeller Center’s Instagram Live during the event @rockefellercenter. Directions for the project can be found on the Children’s Museum’s website.
“We are very grateful to Art Production Fund, Fort Gansevoort, and Rockefeller Center for making ‘Art Sundae’ accessible to families on the East End,” Long added.
The public installation will be on view from July 2 at the exterior ground floor window at 10 Rockefeller Plaza.
