ABOUT EMILY WEITZ
Emily Weitz first connected with the East End arts scene as a journalist, but has always been committed to creative writing as an expressive outlet. She’s published articles in the New York Times and Vice Magazine and personal essays in Longreads and Nourish Magazine, and is a regular contributor to the Sag Harbor Express. In recent years, her writing has taken a new form through the act of songwriting.
In 2026, she and her band, M Takes the Mic, released an original song on the 15th of every month. The culminating songbook, No Song Left Behind, features the potent lyrics of fourteen songs, as well as a link to listen. This evening at Almond will be a writer’s take, examining lyrics as the spine of the songs. She will weave storytelling, reading, and a bit of interactive singing into the night, which also happens to be on the eve of Election Day – it’s a moment of hope, a moment where we can believe that our voices matter. M Takes the Mic isn’t just about one person claiming her voice – it’s a call to others to find theirs.
