Author talk with Tony Caramanico: With the large-format Montauk Surf Journals, released this spring, Montauk surfer and artist Tony Caramanico has assembled art covering 60 years of surf travel and competition amid fellow surf searchers, artists, and the luminaries of the sport. Caramanico's art is a chronicling of his life, collages of journals that combine words, art, pictures, and magazine and newspaper clippings. He is a keen observer, and the book offers a creative, colorful glimpse into his lifelong devotion to chasing waves and working surfing as a business, and describes a sport and pastime and a world in a period of immense change and upheaval. The art and the book are about friends and celebrities, far-flung adventures, and dangers faced and dodged, but always the road seemed to end at a place with good waves. The talk will be moderated by writer, surfer, and Springs resident Biddle Duke.
