"The Sweet Island Dulcimer Group" Dulcimer Performance - Live Concert

The Sweet Island Dulcimer group was formed 6 years ago by Music Director Linda Betjeman. Appalachian lap dulcimers, also called “mountain dulcimers” are uniquely American, originally built and played by early settlers in the Appalachian Mountains. The instrument has had a resurgence in popularity in the last 20 years and there are now dulcimer groups across the country. Sweet Island Dulcimer players specialize in traditional early American hymns, ballads, and folk music, and’s have expanded their repertoire to include cowboy songs, world music and sea chanteys. This year in honor of out nation’s 250th birthday, popular songs from the Colonial period have been added to their programs. The group has performed for churches, children’s gatherings , farmer’s markets, libraries, and museums. Instrumentalists are: Susan Ahlborn, Marianne Baird, Cindy Belt, Karin Bennett, Wendy Clark, Anne Danforth, Christina Herman, Vicky Kotula, Linda Kraus, Charity Robey and Linda Betjeman, director.
