‘OUTCROPPING – Indigenous Art Now’ Opens At Southampton Arts Center

Southampton Arts Center will open its first exhibition of the year, “OUTCROPPING – Indigenous Art Now,” on Friday, February 4, at noon. The show is a celebration of contemporary Shinnecock Nation artists alongside Indigenous artists from an array of sovereign nations.

This exhibition, curated by artist Jeremy Dennis, will address current Native issues locally and across the county, highlighting shared and individual triumphs and struggles. The title “Outcropping” refers to Shinnecock’s translation into English as “People of the Stony Shore” and Shinnecock’s long connection to this land.

Dennis will lead a tour of the galleries, discussing various artists and works from around the country on February 5 at 3 PM. Registration is required.

Complementing this exhibition will be a number of programs, including talks, workshops, and films, and the return of SAC Open House Community Gatherings, organized by ancillary programming curatorial associate Shane Weeks.
