Southampton Arts Center Hosts Architecture + Design Tour

Southampton Arts Center will host the fifth annual Architecture + Design Tour on Thursday, July 14, at 11 AM. Celebrating modern architecture and landscape architecture, the event will include exclusive tours of four select Southampton properties, a panel discussion featuring noted East End architects and landscape architects, including Chris LaGuardia of LaGuardia Design Group, Blaze Makoid of BMA Architects, Viola Rouhani of Stelle Lomont Rouhani Architects, and moderator Siamak Samii of Siamak Samii Architects, and a private brunch.

“We are thrilled this year to take a slight departure from the tradition of SAC’s annual Architecture + Design Tour by examining the impact of the modern vernacular on the architecture and landscape architecture of Southampton,” said event co-chair Mark Fichandler.

The event will begin with a brunch in SAC’s Caesar Garden, followed by a panel led by architect Siamak Samii that will discuss the context of homes and gardens to be visited, elaborating on trends in modern architecture and landscape design.

“Convergence of modernism within the historic fabric of the East End is a challenge that panelists have achieved masterfully and will be a focus of the discussion,” said Samii.

Guests will then tour the select properties throughout Southampton and conclude with a Champagne reception displaying a show of the participating architects’ modern design models and drawings at Samii’s newly-completed workshop studio.

Homes include a mid-1980s modernist design owned by Todd and Lauren Merrill, which includes items from their gallery, a Palladian-style home on a premiere estate street, a Cobb Road home with landscaping architecture by Chris LaGuardia of LaGuardia Design Group, and a new home on Jule Pond designed by Blaze Makoid of BMA Architects and landscaping also by LaGuardia.

“Having a local gallery, Lauren and I want to support the growing Southampton art and design community and are happy to open our home and garden to benefit SAC,” shared Todd Merrill. “We live with art in our surroundings, like the beautiful collection of Curtis Fontaine ceramic sculptures the participants will find in our ‘secret’ garden in Shinnecock Hills.”

The event is limited to 125 guests. Tickets begin at $350 and must be purchased in advance at southamptonartscenter.org/ad-tour. Addresses, visiting schedule, and map will be shared at the brunch.
