2023 Interior Design Trend Report

At James Lane Post, we speak with interior designers almost daily and asked many what their trend forecast was for 2023 in terms of design and essentials. Here’s what we compiled for a refresh within your own spaces.

The Arch

Carrying over from the wildly successful 2-3 years of Boho, rounded curves are everywhere from window casings to altering door frames to create the arch.

Curvy Furnishings

Not to be outdone by the arch doorways, the curvy furnishings trend continues on in 2023. Sherpa or boucle fabric combined with the lines of these pieces is also still very hot. English Country Home in Bridgehampton has a wonderful selection.

Modern Vintage

Adding vintage pieces to modern interiors is the new “eclectic” where hyper contemporary (even Maximalist) interiors get a more lived-in less cold vibe with pieces that add depth through history and the quality materials of yore.

Brutalism

Raw materials, textured surfaces, simple silhouettes, and hard shapes are the signals of this loft-inspired design.

Cloud Furniture

Overstuffed cloud furnishings are like a high-end futons but with comfort and quality stuffing. Often they are sectionalized or with quilting to add dimension and interest.

Wood Slats, Fluted Panels, Pole Wrap For Walls & Furnishings

Especially for modern and/or minimalistic interiors, this is a way to add texture and interest to these sparse yet powerfully arresting interiors. A way to achieve this look simply is to use pole wrap instead of slats – this works especially well for the bottom front-facing side of kitchen islands. Here is a world of ideas for pole wrap.

Modern Morocco

It doesn’t take much to add this hot style to any room, because it only takes one or two pieces, a textile, baskets or rattan plates on the wall, jute area rugs or just wallpaper to bring Morocco into your space. Color stories are often in jewel tones that include emerald, jade, and gold accents.

The Swinger

Whether your space is still in Boho mode, or modern minimalist, the swing chair is a feature for many homes now. The mid-century-modern classic Eero Arnio bubble chair started it all.

Molding On Walls & Doors

Carpenter doors are being upgraded easily with molding as well as walls in a trend that brings the old world to plain walls. The molding can be used as a framing tool for large scale art as well.

The Accent Wall

Continuing into 2023 is the accent wall, which started with the shiplap phenomenon. We’ve come a long way since and there are so many ways to bring a wall to life in your space.
