A Connection That Stayed
Some love stories don’t begin with a spark, but with a quiet familiarity, one that lingers long before it is ever understood.
Nikki and Colby first met in high school through ROTC, simply two people crossing paths without knowing what would eventually unfold. Life, as it often does, carried them in different directions, and for a time, they became distant memories in each other’s lives.
Until one Fourth of July in 2021.
At a friend’s house, in a moment that felt almost inevitable, they found themselves in the same place at the same time. What followed wasn’t a dramatic reunion, but something far more telling. Ease. Conversation that flowed. Laughter that felt familiar. A connection that, somehow, had never quite left.

When they saw each other again, it wasn’t about catching up, it was about recognizing what had always been there. What began as friendship quickly became something deeper, rooted in an unspoken understanding and a shared sense of comfort that felt entirely their own.
Somewhere within that rhythm, Nikki realized she had fallen for her best friend.
And from that point on, there was no separation, only a life moving forward, together.

A Vision, Intuitively Understood

Growing up in the Hamptons, Nikki was always someone who had her wedding imagined long before it ever felt tangible. From an early age, she was drawn to the idea of a princess silhouette paired with soft blue and white florals, an aesthetic that, interestingly, never wavered. Even her Pinterest boards, from her teenage years through the eve of the wedding, remained remarkably consistent, almost like a visual diary of a vision quietly unfolding over time.

What made the day feel especially personal were the subtle, almost unspoken nods to those early imaginings. The tablescapes echoed that timeless palette, while small, sentimental details, like the “just married” sign affixed to the back of her father-in-law’s 1959 Ford Fairlane Galaxy, the very car they drove away in, felt both nostalgic and deeply intentional.

Rather than being shaped by a single place or moment, the wedding was the culmination of a feeling she had carried with her for years, one that was gently informed by her surroundings and ultimately brought to life in a way that felt both effortless and entirely her own.

A Ceremony with Meaning
Their ceremony at Sacred Heart Church was a natural choice, shaped by a connection to place and tradition.

While the setting itself is undeniably beautiful, it was the personal history behind it that made it meaningful. Colby grew up attending the church, and it remains an important part of his family’s life, with both of his parents still closely connected to it.
Colby also served as a volunteer for the parish summer party. It was there, early in their relationship, that Nikki remembers standing beside him and quietly feeling that they would one day be married in that very space.

In that sense, choosing Sacred Heart wasn’t just about the setting. It was about honoring something deeply familiar, a place that, to them, felt like a true sense of belonging.
Where It Was Always Meant To Be

There was never really a question of where Nikki and Colby would get married.

Having both grown up in Southampton, the Hamptons was not just a backdrop, but part of who they are. It holds their history, their people, and the rhythm of their everyday lives. Choosing Oceanbleu in Westhampton as the setting felt less like a decision and more like a natural extension of that story.

The guest list reflected it all: family, childhood friends, familiar faces who had witnessed their lives unfold in real time. There was an ease to the entire celebration, a sense of comfort that can only come from being surrounded by the place and people who have always been there.

Nothing felt staged. Nothing felt out of place. It was a wedding grounded in something real, where every detail, every moment, felt exactly where it was meant to be. Even the date itself felt personal, set between their birthdays, a small detail that made the weekend feel even more like a reflection of them. A September wedding in the Hamptons always comes with the hope of perfect weather, and they were lucky to have just that.

Rooted In Community

Having both grown up in Southampton, Nikki and Colby’s connection to the local community shaped the entire feeling and flow of the celebration. There was something incredibly special about being surrounded by the people who have been part of their lives for so long, family, childhood friends, and familiar faces who, in many ways, have watched their story unfold.

That same sense of care carried through in quieter ways as well. Colby’s life as an EMS Chief and business owner is rooted in service, leadership, and a deep sense of responsibility, qualities that naturally influenced how the day was approached. Accustomed to thinking ahead and anticipating needs, he brought that mindset into the planning process, with a clear intention to create an experience where their families and friends could simply relax and enjoy.

At the same time, there was a conscious effort to let go of that role and be fully present. His focus on creating a welcoming and thoughtful environment translated into an atmosphere where guests felt genuinely cared for, never staged, never forced.

What stood out most was that balance, a day shaped by intention and care, yet experienced in the moment. Effortless for their guests, and deeply meaningful for them.

A Feeling of Home
What felt most like home throughout the weekend wasn’t a place, but a moment.

It was the feeling of being surrounded by their family and closest friends, everyone who has shaped their lives, all together in one space. Just after their first dance, there was a pause where Nikki took a breath and looked around the room. In that moment, everything felt familiar and complete, like everyone who mattered most was right there with them.

It wasn’t about the setting, but the presence of their people. That sense of closeness and ease is what made the entire weekend feel like home.

There was another quiet pause earlier in the day, just after photos and before cocktail hour began. Standing on the walkway leading down to the beach, they watched as their guests began to arrive. Without thinking, they reached for each other’s hands, taking a moment to let it all sink in: the setting, the energy, and the people around them.

It was brief, but meaningful. One of those rare moments where everything slows down, and you realize exactly where you are.
Where It Came All Together

When it came to planning, a few key elements quickly rose to the top, details that would ultimately shape the entire experience.

At the center of it all was finding the right planner, someone who could truly bring their vision to life. They worked with Events by Kate, who guided them through two years of planning with a sense of ease that made the entire process feel seamless.

From there, the focus turned to the elements that would define the atmosphere, food, and music. For a groom who loves to cook, the culinary experience at Oceanbleu was an immediate yes.

They also knew they wanted the reception to feel like a true celebration, which led them to a hybrid band and DJ. Barrattini brought an incredible energy that carried throughout the night and set the tone for an unforgettable atmosphere.

In the end, the approach was simple. Focus on what would shape how the day felt for them and for their guests, and trust everything else to fall into place.
The Moment That Lasts
Looking back, it isn’t a single feeling that brings it all back, but a photograph.
Taken toward the end of the reception, it captures one of those unplanned, in-between moments. Nikki running into Colby’s arms as he lifts and spins her around.

There’s something about it that holds everything. The joy, the energy, and just how present they both were.
It’s the kind of image that, every time they see it, brings them right back to that moment and to exactly how it all felt.
