A virtual book talk with Mary Romney on “An Afro-Caribbean in the Nazi Era” will be held on Sunday, February 27, at 7 PM, co-sponsored by Temple Adas Israel and Southampton African American Museum.
“An Afro-Caribbean in the Nazi Era: From Papiamentu to German” is the story of Lionel Romney’s wartime experience, shared by his daughter, Mary.
Lionel, an Afro-Caribbean merchant sailor, was one of few Black people to be imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp and survived to tell his story of being trapped, by chance, in the politics, chaos, and violence of World War II.
