On Saturday, June 14, The NeoPolitical Cowgirls will host its annual Arts and Advocacy Gala at LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton. The theme of the event is “Women Who Speak Truth to Power: Through the Lens of Women’s Bodies, The Arts, and the Constitution.”
Monologues and plays that address this theme will be performed, followed by a conversation with diverse leaders on the topic. This event is more than just a fundraiser, although it is a crucial one for this local theater arts organization that serves people of all ages on the East End and in New York City. The event provides an opportunity to engage in conversation about pressing issues and support for the arts.
The LongHouse grounds provide a unique setting for this support, where the Neo-Political Cowgirls create engaging performances and educational programs. Their work impacts thousands of lives on the East End each year through creative theater and community outreach efforts.
Join Artistic Director Kate Mueth, panel moderator and Edward R Murrow fellow Elise Labott, panelists Ana Oliviera, President and CEO of the New York Women’s Foundation, activist and author Dorothy Quincy Thomas, former director of the Women’s Rights Project of the Humans Rights Watch in New York, and Anne Ream, Co-Founder of the Center for Story and Witness, along with a growing contingent of powerful voices to come together and inspire.
Actress Mercedes Ruehl will join for the event. Featured performers include Catherine Curtin. Playwrights Cynthia Cooper, Emma Tattenbaum-Fine, and Kate Mueth provide the readings, and Olivia Wasser and Jackie Iulo perform along with NPC dancers.
