A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald at LTV Studios

LTV Studios 75 Industrial Road, Wainscott, NY, USA

LTV Studios and Josh Gladstone welcome the beloved art form of cabaret back to East Hampton by hosting a brand new concert series entitled American Songbook…Then & Now. This five-part series celebrates the classic cabaret stylings of the great American Songbook as performed and interpreted by some of the region’s finest artists. The next performance, A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, will take place on Tuesday, August 1 at 7:30 p.m. at LTV Studios (75 Industrial Road, Wainscott, NY 11975) and stars Jane Hastay, Peter Martin Weiss and Darcey. Tickets can be purchased by texting LTVDARCEY to 41444 or by clicking the link: https://bit.ly/43wPkwM. Producer Josh Gladstone, who Executive Director Michael Clark brought onboard earlier this year to produce performing arts at LTV, has presented theatrical events and musical concerts in the area for many years (including over two decades at Guild Hall, where cabaret flourished). Gladstone has invited a roster of topnotch talent to inaugurate this dynamic new series in LTV’s intimate, black-box Studio Three Theater.

Local veterans and champions of the East End music scene Jane Hastay and Peter Martin Weiss have been hailed as “two artists completely at ease with each other and their material . . .performing with exquisite taste and timing, elegance and passion.” They are joined by singer Darcey for a swinging evening of piano, bass and vocal jazz celebrating the legend, influence and style of America’s First Lady of Song, the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald.

JANE HASTAY

As a young pianist Jane Hastay dove into the multicultural San Francisco music scene. She toured Europe with Lilith Theater Company, danced and played percussion with the Brazilian samba troupe Escola Nova de Samba, played in the American Hawaii Cruise Lines Orchestra, accompanied Concord recording artist Denise Perrier, studied electronic music at Mills College and had steady engagements at the Fairmont Hotel and Hyatt on Union Square. A Master’s Degree in Jazz Piano Performance from Manhattan School of Music was followed by appearances at the Blue Note, The Lenox Lounge, The Five Spot, DeFemios and the New Haven and Newark Jazz Festivals. Jane toured Japan with the all-woman Kit McClure Big Band, and also played with Etta Jones, Michael Carvin, Houston Person and Frank Wess. Jane is currently the organist, chancel and handbell choir master at the historic First Presbyterian Church of East Hampton.

PETER MARTIN WEISS

Peter Martin Weiss, an established New York bassist in the 80s and 90s, often performed at Birdland, The Village Vanguard and Blue Note. In addition, he’s played with the Bronx Symphony, the Greenwich Village Symphony, Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. From 1986-1996. Peter was a member of the Etta James/Houston Person Quintet. He toured internationally and recorded over 40 CDs, including his own, Bass Hits, on the Savant record label.

DARCEY

Measure by measure for 45 years, Darcey has been swinging with effervescence and joy. Growing up, the player piano at home was a resource for learning a variety of songs and styles. Early professional work included musical theater roles, a show band Canadian tour, and house band vocalist for 5 years at Gurney’s Inn, in Montauk. Concert appearances include NYC’s The Triad and Danny’s Skylight Room, and Art of Song concerts at the Bridgehampton Museum’s Archives Building. Darcey loves to bring to life the stories in lyrics, enhanced with the art of Vocalese, which she embraced at a young age. Darcey’s 3 studio recordings include a handful of originals. She is compared to jazz legends Carmen McRae, Mel Torme and Ella Fitzgerald, her greatest jazz influences.
