Halsey House & Garden Halsey House & Garden

Step back in time with a self-guided tour of the Thomas Halsey Homestead, the oldest house in Southampton, built in 1648. Located on picturesque South Main Street, the Halsey House offers a rare glimpse into early colonial life on Long Island. Explore period rooms furnished with authentic 17th- and 18th-century artifacts, admire the home’s remarkable architecture, and wander the beautiful Colonial Revival gardens. Visitors are welcome to move through the house at their own pace, discovering the stories of Southampton’s founding families and the community they helped shape. Informational panels and exhibits throughout the property provide fascinating context about daily life, craftsmanship, and history spanning nearly four centuries.

As part of the experience, enjoy live historic broom making demonstrations presented by craftsman Tim Van Wickler, showcasing a traditional skill once essential to everyday life.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, architecture lover, or simply curious about Southampton’s roots, the Halsey House invites you to experience the past in a unique and personal way. Our very knowledgeable Museum Manager, Laurie Collins, will be on hand to help guide you and answer any questions you may have along the way!
