The Southampton Animal Shelter held a Valentine’s Day event on Saturday, February 15, hosted by award-winning animal advocate Jill Rappaport. The event invited the community to show love for the shelter’s adoptable big pups.
It was part of Rappaport’s second annual campaign, A Home For The Holidays & After. “This is my second year doing this campaign, where I feature the underdogs of the shelter,” said Rappaport.

The campaign aims to find homes for “the seniors, the bully breeds, and the special needs,” she said. “And while we have had incredible success, over 90 percent that I have featured have been adopted, there are still many like beautiful Big Betty and Bubba who, because of their size, age, and breed, have not had a single application!”
Nine of the campaign’s featured animals have been adopted or are pending adoption, while Bubba and Big Betty are still available for adoption.

“Sadly, Bubba, who is going on eight years old, has spent 500 days here. Big Betty, who came to the shelter in August, has lost a considerable amount of weight due to the stress. And both of these dogs smother you with love and kisses when you’re in their presence. It is just astounding and heartbreaking to me that they have not found their forever home yet!”
