The “Karaoke for a Kure” fundraiser for the International Breast Cancer Surgical Mission was held on Saturday, January 20, at Union Burger Bar in Southampton.
In response to a global need for breast cancer care, every year the International Breast Cancer Surgical Mission (IBCSM) team travels to the Dominican Republic to provide preventative and surgical breast cancer treatment to women and men in need.
It is the first team to provide breast cancer treatment on the north coast of the Dominican Republic for over a decade.
“Our patients wait for us every year to come and provide this care, as without it, either there would be a significant delay in their treatment or they could never afford to be seen,” said a statement from IBCSM.
Founded in 2012, the IBCSM is a nonprofit organization led by Edna Kapenhas, MD, FACS, in partnership with Island Impact Ministries and new partner, The Ellen Hermanson Foundation, through The Ruth Quint Memorial Fund. Ruth was Ellen’s aunt and a dedicated friend of the foundation.
