Naturopathica Spas brings its signature botanical treatments to Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton this summer. The opening is part of its 30th Anniversary celebrations this season. The brand opened its original Spa and Healing Arts Center in East Hampton in 1995. We spoke to Naturopathica’s Chairwoman, Cathy O’Brien, to learn more.
Congratulations on Naturopathica’s 30th anniversary! Can you provide a brief history of the brand and its beginnings in the Hamptons?
Our spas are truly at the heart of what we do. Naturopathica originated with our Founder, Barbara Close, creating our East Hampton Spa and Healing Arts Center in 1995 as an herbal apothecary that also offered the healing power of touch through massages and facials. The brand is rooted in the principles of naturopathic medicine — a tradition that connects the body’s internal activities with outer forces like nature, diet, and movement — and all of our therapeutic services and skincare formulas are centered around honoring these principles and harnessing the power of herbs and botanicals in conjunction with clinically-supported results. Today, we have six independent spas alongside over 300 partner spas across the country, most recently opening Naturopathica Topping Rose House, our second location in the Hamptons, where it all began.

Can you share the plans for this season at Topping Rose House? What are some of the signature treatments that will be offered?
Luxury hotels have always provided a natural home base for our spas, and Topping Rose House offers a luxurious, high-touch hospitality environment that naturally relaxes guests. Our spa at Topping Rose House is 400 sq ft with four treatment beds and will offer the full Naturopathica menu of services, including our signature Defy Facial and Chill Massage as well as our specialty treatments like our prenatal massage and oncology care program, created specifically with the unique needs and sensitivities of patients undergoing harsh cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery in mind. In addition, all spa patrons will have access to Topping Rose House’s guest-exclusive wellness amenities, including the pool, sauna, and lounge facilities for a little extra R&R.
Can you tell us about the Heritage Facial that will be launched in East Hampton using products created by founder Barbara Close?
The Heritage Facial is a celebration of Naturopathica’s roots, featuring two of our original skincare products that were crafted onsite by Founder Barbara Close at the East Hampton Spa and Healing Arts Center: the Carrot Seed Soothing Facial Oil and Calendula Essential Hydrating Cream. These two products are foundational to Naturopathica, not only because they continue to be bestsellers to this day, but because they were created in an effort to soothe Barbara’s mother’s skin while undergoing chemotherapy for cancer treatment, thus inspiring our Oncology Care program. Rooted in clean beauty and designed to bring the skin back to balance, we’re launching The Heritage Facial exclusively in East Hampton to pay homage to our beginnings.
