On March 12 the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill will reopen its galleries, returning to a Friday through Monday in-person visit schedule and marking the opening of the annual Student Exhibition. A 65-year tradition, the Student Exhibition celebrates youthful imagination and boundless creativity by showcasing the talents of hundreds of students and educators from over 30 Eastern Long Island schools.
In addition, Material Witness: Simone Leigh’s Sentinel in Context, What We See How We See, American Views landscape paintings, and several other exhibitions drawn from the Parrish collection will be on view. Parrish members have priority for timed admission tickets on Friday and Saturday, March 12 and 13. Registration is open to the public beginning Sunday, March 14.
The 2021 Student Exhibition provides an overview of the high level of creativity and accomplishment achieved in regional schools. Students demonstrate imagination, enthusiasm, and technical skill in diverse media such as painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, collage, and textiles.
“Artistic expression is a means of communication and the works on view serve to affirm the importance of art education this and every year,” said Parrish Education Director Cara Conklin-Wingfield. “We are thrilled that, despite significant adjustments to the day-to-day practice, participating teachers enthusiastically met the challenge of preparing, selecting, and submitting student work. Their efforts this year demonstrate a deep commitment to art education, their students, and the community, and we cannot thank them enough.”
In addition to experiencing the 2021 Student Exhibition in the galleries, the Museum is offering online tours and related programs including a 360° virtual tour, a live-stream exhibition video tour Friday, March 12 at 5 PM, and a live-stream awards ceremony on Friday, April 16.
Guests must pre-register for online programs at parrishart.org.
