“RECLAIMED: The Oracles and Archetypes of Amy Zerner” will open at MM Fine Art in Southampton on April 15 with a book signing and art talk from 6 to 8 PM. An artist’s reception will be held Saturday, April 22, from 6 to 8 PM.
This exhibit celebrates interdisciplinary artist Amy Zerner’s re-use, re-purposing, and resurrection of a unique collection of materials into strikingly imaginative collages in her pioneering, NEA award-winning Magic Surrealism style, as well as her reclamation of the Divine Feminine in her imagery, which she has been exploring since the 1970s.
“The remnants and treasures that I have collected over the years are sorted and stored in my ‘temple’ studio in Springs, where I have lived full-time since 1967, until I transform them and give them new life, intuitively assembling and combining them with care and intention. That is alchemy, the magic of changing something from base to precious. The process of telling each purposeful story generates forgotten memories, powerful feelings, the very essence of the goosebump experiences that make life a sacred play. That is and has long been my goal and my process, to make something valuable from something ordinary, unwanted, given away. My work reveals that we all have the potential to make miracles and magic. Being an oracle while creating, since 1990, my series of best-selling oracles and tarot decks created over many years, provides me access to numinous, untold histories of ancient times and glimpses into the hopeful, exciting, and healing future my work honors,” said Zerner.
The artist will be showing large mixed-media tapestries as well as a curated selection of original artwork from her popular oracle books and card sets, created with her husband Monte Farber.
