Southampton Arts Center presents its 11th annual SummerFest Gala on Saturday, August 22, on the grounds of the SAC to benefit their mission to develop community building through the arts. The highly anticipated event will honor John Paulson and Alina de Almeida with the Champion of the Arts Award in recognition of their dedication to the arts. The gala will be co-chaired by Anke & Jürgen Friedrich, Jamee & Peter Gregory, Audrey & Martin Gruss, Simone & David Levinson, and Chris & Richard Mack.
The evening will begin with a cocktail reception showcasing dishes from local eateries. This will be followed by a seated dinner catered by Acquolina Catering and dancing with DJ Olivier Meiji.
This year’s SummerFest takes place during “Presence: The Photography Collection of Judy Glickman Lauder,” which will be on display through September 27. Curated by Dr. Anjuli Lebowitz, the collection explores the concept of presence through the tenderness of portraits, the awe within landscapes, the clarity of reportage, and the spontaneity of cityscapes.
Representing some of the last century’s most important photographic developments, from Pictorialism and social documentary photography to Surrealism and street photography, works by artists including Merry Alpern, Richard Avedon, Irving Bennett Ellis, Dorothea Lange, Alma Lavenson, Danny Lyon, Susan Meiselas, Inge Morath, Gordon Parks, Edward Steichen, Joyce Tenneson, James Van Der Zee, and Todd Webb come together in unique and unexpected ways.
