Southampton Playhouse Presents Hitchcock’s ‘Vertigo’ In 35MM

Southampton Playhouse presents the 1958 film “Vertigo” on Friday, January 16, at 7:30 PM.

Routinely cited as one of the greatest movies of all time, “Vertigo” is a masterclass of suspense, misdirection, and visual innovation that has provoked endless analysis over the years. In Alfred Hitchcock’s eerie, atmospheric thriller, an acrophobic investigator (Jimmy Stewart) is hired to follow the strange wanderings of a dazed woman (Kim Novak) and subsequently falls in love with her. When that romance ends in tragedy, Stewart’s character finds himself drawn to another woman who looks suspiciously like the one from his past.

With masterful visual effects that still stun to this day, Bernard Hermann’s inquisitive score, and a brilliant twist in its second half that redefines everything leading up to it, “Vertigo” casts a unique spell worthy of the theatrical experience. This is a unique opportunity to absorb its movie magic projected on 35mm, the original format that solidified “Vertigo” as a historic big-screen achievement.
