Since its inception five years ago at Einstein Square, Southold General was created to be a place where locals and visitors could gather, share conversation, and enjoy a variety of culinary offerings. That vision was inspired by its history: in 1939, Albert Einstein and David Rothman met at that very spot to talk and exchange ideas.
Now, five years later, Southold General will enter its next chapter under Stone Street Coffee’s management. Stone Street Coffee, which also has a café in Soho, aims to bring “a highly elevated café experience to Southold and the entire North Fork — one that honors the legacy of Southold General while introducing a new level of craftsmanship, quality, and hospitality,” said a statement from Southold General.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to the community for the extraordinary support and patronage throughout these past five years. Southold General has always belonged to Southold, and we are confident that under Stone Street Coffee’s stewardship, this cherished gathering place will be elevated to an entirely new experience — while remaining true to the spirit on which it was founded,” the statement continued.
Stone Street offers coffee that is roasted in small batches in Brooklyn.
