Stony Brook Southampton Hospital has dedicated its Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Room in memory of Randy Hoffman, EMS, an emergency medical responder whose service left a lasting mark on the East End community. Certified as an EMT in 2008, Hoffman served with nearly every EMS agency across the South Fork, including the Amagansett Fire Department, East Hampton Village Ambulance Association, Springs Fire Department, Southampton Volunteer Ambulance, Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance, Bridgehampton Fire Department, and Montauk Fire Department. Over the course of his career, Randy responded to thousands of emergency calls and was recognized by REMSCO for saving at least two lives.
Randy’s courage extended beyond his years of service. After surviving a spinal injury that left him a quadriplegic following routine surgery, he faced recovery with determination and optimism. In the winter of 2024, Randy was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer. He passed away this past July, leaving behind a deeply saddened South Fork community and an enduring legacy of compassion, resilience, and service. A plaque, donated by the Bridgehampton EMS, with Randy’s name has been installed outside the EMT Room at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, as a lasting tribute to his life and service.
“The dedication of the EMT Room ensures that Randy’s contributions and commitment to helping others will continue to inspire both current and future generations of emergency responders,” said Darin Wiggin, MD. “We are honored to recognize his service with this naming plaque as a permanent tribute to his life, leadership, and service to the community.”
