The Bridgehampton Museum will welcome author Shane Weeks who will speak about his book Good Neighbors: A Shinnecock History From a Shinnecock Perspective as part of the Distinguished Lecturer Series at the Museum Archive Building, Thursday, June 30, at 6 PM.
Weeks’s book tells the history of the Shinnecock Indian Nation as seen through his eyes. Published in March 2022, Shane started writing this book in 2017. The book features traditional knowledge, opinions, facts, and insight into his life as a member of the Shinnecock Nation.
Weeks is a member of the Shinnecock Nation of Southampton. Shane’s traditional name is “Bizhiki Nibauit”, which means Standing Buffalo. He is also from the Buffalo Clan. Shane is dedicated to his community and represents his people in a number of capacities. As a traditional singer and dancer, cultural consultant, artist, and member of several boards and committees, Shane’s mission is to bridge the gap between his community of Shinnecock, the local community, and communities abroad.
A Q&A and refreshments will follow the 40-minute talk. Tickets are $15 for members and $20 for non-members.
The Distinguished Lecturer Series is a bimonthly series that will present informal talks with noted authors, historians, and poets and their work and process.
