The Church in Sag Harbor presents a conversation between artist John Alexander and The Church chief curator Sara Cochran on May 29 at 4 PM. Featured in The Church’s spring exhibition “Empire of Water,” John’s magnificent work, “Feeding Frenzy, 1999” will serve as the main point of discussion as they confer about John’s impressive career.
Alexander has described his work as a “glimpse of paradise before the wrecking ball hits.” He is internationally recognized as a skilled draftsman and painter who creates arresting still lifes, lush but sometimes violent landscapes, and incisive and satirical portraits that tackle politics, religion, and the absurdity of the human condition. His work conveys a robust appreciation for the natural world – from intimate studies of birds and plants to an expression of his frustrations with the actions of humans in regard to nature and ourselves.
Tickets are $15.
