The Church’s 4th Birthday Celebration: Book Swap, Sale, & Festivities

The Church in Sag Harbor is celebrating its fourth birthday. Join for festivities, including a weekend full of books, exploration, learning, and more.

On Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27, from 11 AM to 2 PM, peruse the selection of goods downstairs in the studio space. Art books and catalogues, like the newly printed “Strike Fast Dance Lightly: Artists on Boxing” and the much-loved “Yes, No, and WOW: The Push Pin Studios Revolution,” will be on sale. While shopping and swapping books, from noon to 2 PM on Saturday, check out the open studios with artists-in-residence Alison Cynamon and Rayos Magos.

Also on Saturday, is The Power of Poetry: Verse 3 – I’m with the Banned, from 2:30 to 4 PM. The recurring community-driven poetry read-in returns for its next verse, exploring poems and voices of those who have encountered resistance and censorship of expression, including poets Gwendolyn Brooks, Amanda Gorman, Shel Silverstein, Walt Whitman, and more.

Sunday, April 27, from 3 to 4:30 PM is “APRIL’S FOOL,” where co-founder April Gornik discusses “Figures du Fou.” Gornik will provide a richly illustrated virtual walk-through of the exhibition that was on view at the Louvre Museum from October 16, 2024, to February 5, 2025. Diving deep into the multiple meanings and history of “the fool,” April will explore the many meanings and context of fools. From sinners and saints to royal and common, the fool is everywhere, including in artists.

On Sunday, from 4:30 to 5 PM, there will be a birthday cake and a book signing. Join Jaime Lopez and Coco Myers for advanced sales and signing of their book “Light, Sand, and Sea: Hamptons Artists and Their Studios.” Co-founder Eric Fischl will be on hand to sign copies of The Church’s latest publication, “Strike Fast Dance Lightly: Artists on Boxing,” and Gornik will be available to sign “Yes, No, and WOW: The Push Pin Studios Revolution,” both of which will be available for purchase.
