The Photography Show Presented By AIPAD Coming Up At The Park Avenue Armory

The Photography Show presented by AIPAD will take place from April 22 to 26 at the Park Avenue Armory. Featuring exhibitors from around the world bringing historically significant and formally innovative work, the fair will continue The Photography Show’s longstanding commitment to deepening the collective understanding of photography’s history while spotlighting some of the most dynamic examples of contemporary experimentation.

Alongside its 67 exhibiting galleries, 13 Focal Point Sector participants, and 20 photobook exhibitors, AIPAD welcomes back many partners that have supported previous iterations of The Photography Show. Lead cultural partner MUUS Collection — whose partnership supports an eclectic mix of illuminating and celebratory events — will present a retrospective selection of works by the late, widely celebrated Rosalind Fox Solomon. In addition to once again sponsoring Night of Photography, The International Center of Photography will host its Day of Photography in the historic Colonel’s Reception Room, where ICP faculty will carry out critiques alongside additional programming.

AIPAD member gallery Alta will present Free Air and Beyond, a celebration of the enduring collaboration between the world-renowned publisher Steidl and Robert Frank. At the heart of the exhibition is a curated selection of Frank’s pioneering photographs, shown in dialogue with works by photographer Clark Winter from his Steidl book “Free Air,” alongside a Steidl presentation structured around Frank’s book “Story Lines.” Together, they reveal an artist whose widely celebrated genius lies in his eye, yet whose more intimate, personal, and lesser-known work emerges through his hands. Dear Dave, and its publisher Stephen Frailey, will continue hosting Influence, its hugely popular series of talks with photographers and industry leaders.

For the very first time, the Aperture Portfolio Prize will be awarded at the fair, with all five finalists participating in a group exhibition curated by Aperture editors at The Photography Show as well as an AIPAD Talks program about the prize. Following the success of last year’s pop-up photobooth, NYC Salt students will return to The Photography Show to photograph gallerists, exhibitors, photographers, and visitors, capturing full-body portraits inspired by the style of Irving Penn’s corner portraits and Richard Avedon’s mural portraiture. This program offers NYC students hands-on experience while also fostering valuable industry connections and inspiring new creative directions.
