The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation presents Spay-ghetti!, where community members can eat spaghetti to support the foundation’s spay and neuter services for feral cats.
Each ticket purchased includes one gift certificate to Scotto’s in Hampton Bays for one meal — meals includes spaghetti and two meatballs (optional), a side salad, and bread. You will also receive a cupcake from Cathy’s Cupcakes and two raffle tickets.
“We assist our community in its efforts to control the local feral cat population by providing a humane Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) services and education. We are the only program in our area and assist 17 townships with our free service,” explained Tracy McLaren, the foundation’s community relations coordinator.
Through the foundation’s Advo-cat program, adult feral cats are trapped, neutered or spayed, and vaccinated before being returned to their colonies. Kittens are socialized in foster homes and later adopted.
“By participating in Spay-ghetti you are enabling us to surgically alter, vaccinate, and help control our feral cat communities,” said Kate McEntee, the director of animal relations. “TNR is the most effective way of controlling populations of feral cats. Cats that go through TNR programs are healthier to have around and can no longer reproduce. We also help support the feral cats so if one were to get sick or injured, we can treat and care for them at our facility.”
“Huge thank you to Scotto’s and all of our sponsors who joined us for this event including the Southampton Artist Association, Gardens by Romi, Gregory Jon’s Landscape Company, Southampton Inn, Paws PR, Pure by Jana, One Source Tool, En-Consultants, Kennel and Crate, JP Mulvey, Eastport Animal Hospital, Cavalier Homes, John and Suzanne Perry, Dottie Donaldson and Pat and Mike Franzino,” said Executive Director Joseph Sprague. “We want to thank our whole community for being so supportive! We are looking forward to having a successful Spay-ghetti dinner to help raise funds and support our Advo-cat program.”
“We’re doing things a bit differently this year,” said Venessa Herdter, the foundation’s adoption manager. “Our annual Spay-ghetti fundraiser will be held in-house at our shelter.”
It all takes place on February 27 to 28 from 10 AM to 3 PM. If you’re not around the weekend of Spay-ghetti, the gift certificate will be honored until March 14. Participants can purchase tickets and schedule a pick-up at the shelter.
There are also raffle items available and winners will be notified on Monday, March 1. A live auction will take place through eBay this year.
