BookHampton in East Hampton presents a virtual event with Tim Shriver and award-winning musician Jewel on Tuesday, March 16, at 7 PM.
The two will discuss Shriver’s book “The Call to Unite: Voices of Hope and Awakening.”
Shriver is the founder of UNITE, a Chair of the Special Olympics, a disability rights activist, bestselling author, former teacher, and film producer, among other things.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Shriver saw an opportunity to unite. He asked everyone from monks and nuns, nurses and doctors, artists and activists, ex-presidents and ex-cons to come together to share inspirational messages. “The Call to Unite” captures the spirit of this 24-hour event.
The book features poems, prayers, and spiritual insights from the likes of Bishop TD Jakes, Elizabeth Gilbert, Van Jones, Arthur Brooks, Amy Grant, Dr. Rheeda Walker, Pastor Rick Warren, Rev. Jacqui Lewis, Jewel, Deepak Chopra, and others.
It’s meant to be “a book of wisdom to light our way in dark times,” according to the book’s synopsis. “Only in embracing each other can we amplify the love that creates our global community. Only in coming together can we be our happiest, and our best.”
Jewel, who has sold over 30 million albums, went from growing up with no running water on an Alaskan homestead, to experiencing homelessness as teenager in San Diego. Twenty five years ago she released “Pieces of You,” one of the best-selling debuts of all time. The artist offers free mindfulness exercises and an online community to support mental health at JewelNeverBroken.com.
Tickets to the event are $25 and include a copy of “The Call to Unite” with a bookplate signed by Shriver. Visit BookHampton’s website to register.
