Mind Offline presents Wave Science, a field talk with Jesse Spooner, on Earth Day, April 22, from 9 to 11 AM.
A born and raised local, and a surfer since the age of six, Spooner aka ‘Spoonsurf’ has studied Wave Science, been a competitive surfer, and has taught surfing for over 25 years. He holds a masters in Environmental Science and Policy from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in Marine Science Environmental Studies from Florida Technical Institute. He is a teacher at Avenues Studio and previously taught science and coached surfing at The Ross School.
The course is not just for surfers, but for “anyone curious about learning more about waves, their impact and the forces that create them.”
Guests can learn how to tell the difference between windswell and groundswell, Oor how a ‘set’ forms and what determines how many waves are in each set.
The cost is $20 to register and will be donated to the Hamptons Film Environmental Film Category, Air, Land + Sea.
Those interested in attending should register the quantity in your group. Directions will be emailed to the registrant via email 24 to 48 prior to the talk once the location is chosen.
