IMPACT, the inaugural juried photography exhibition at the North Fork Arts Center, opens Saturday, October 24, at 211 Front Street in Greenport. Over 460 images were entered into the show by 176 local East End artists, and 100 were selected by a blind jury process to be hung. Opening day features two panel discussions with leading photographers and editors, followed by a public reception.
IMPACT is organized by Paul Henry and Jeremy Garretson on behalf of a group of North Fork photographers and artists, in partnership with North Fork Arts Center. “It’s exciting to bring IMPACT to the community through the North Fork Arts Center,” said organizer Paul Henry. “This is exactly what an arts center should be.”

From 2 to 3 PM, the day’s events will begin with the discussion “Through the Juror’s Eye: Selecting the Winning Photographs,” where experienced photographers, editors, and jurors explore why certain images command our attention and remain in our memory. The talk features Amnon Bar-Tur, photographer, photojournalist, and co-founder of the international BarTur Photo Award; Jim Willse, former editor of the New York Daily News and The Star-Ledger and 1999 National Press Foundation Editor of the Year; and Harvey Stein, photographer, educator, and author of 10 photography books.

From 3 to 4 PM, “On Assignment: Celebrity Photography” features iconic celebrity photographers discussing their careers and on-assignment adventures. The talk features Guerin Blask, celebrity portrait photographer featured in TIME, Billboard, and The New York Times; Macall Polay, film and TV stills photographer for “Game of Thrones,” “A Complete Unknown,” and “The Devil Wears Prada 2”; and Deborah Feingold, photographer behind iconic portraits of Madonna, Brooke Shields, and Barack Obama.

The show’s opening reception will be held from 4 to 6 PM. Meet the artists and see the 100 selected works.
The exhibit will be on view through November 22. For more info, visit impactphotoshow.com.
