In a changing of the guard, 72 verdant acres of farmland in Aquebogue will pass from one steward to the next. The lush expanse fronting Sound Avenue and Church Lane has been held for decades by a farming family. Now, the pastoral fields will become home to the Charter School of Riverhead.
“I’m thrilled to have brought together the right land with the right plan,” said Susan Berkoski of Town & Country Real Estate, the brokerage that arranged the transaction. “The superintendent and school board had the foresight to see how transformative this would be for their students.”
The acquisition, she explained, is a custom fit on multiple levels, aligning the school’s need for space with the family’s desire to entrust their fields to fitting custodians. “Land changes hands from steward to steward,” Berkoski said. “And I know the family takes comfort in the care and purpose the school will bring.”
Town & Country’s CEO Judi Desiderio commended the school board’s vision. “We congratulate them on this forward-thinking acquisition and hope other districts will follow suit for the benefit of future generations.”
