A solo show for artist Blair Borthwick, titled “The Way You Embrace The Stars And The Moon,” is on display at Matriark in Sag Harbor. Twenty of Blair’s paintings, drawings, and collages will be on view at the shop until July 31.
Blair uses color and structures to explore existential questions around the purpose of our shared humanity. Her work is grounded in Abstract Expressionism, following the ideologies of Wassily Kandinsky, Willem de Kooning, and Lee Krasner. Through her large-scale oil paintings and oil pastel drawings, she addresses “fundamental truths: the precariousness of life and our essential connectedness.” Her process starts by exploring existential questions around the purpose of humanity, visualizing them in incongruent forms or childlike renderings in bright, burning colors.
Blair divides her time between New York City and Shelter Island, where her studio is located.
